If you’ve decided you want a foreign exchange job and you think you’re the next corporate dealer to take the world by storm, then the best place to start looking is the Internet. I would suggest to begin browsing the websites of a few non-bank foreign exchange providers and find out what the skill set is for a foreign exchange dealer.
I have put together a list of some of these non-banks and their websites:
What you’ll find following a bit of research is that most foreign exchange jobs - particularly dealer roles - are described in a similar manner across the board. Things like manage a budget, customer service skills, knowledge of financial markets (foreign exchange), knowledge of sales process and so forth will pop up time and again.
It’s important that before you even go for an interview you have a strong understanding of these topics, because getting asked about these topics, is about as certain as death and taxes. To be successful, you will need to have strong well prepared answer’s, but as any human resources/recruitment person will tell you, try to deliver them as naturally as possible.
Thinking back to my own experience during the interview process; you may at some point need to do a ‘mock’ call with one of the interviewers, in which you are the dealer and they act as client. While it sounds difficult and it probably will be for some, its a great opportunity for you to show your sales skills. Good luck getting that foreign exchange job!
